In the pioneering days of Hip Hop culture, rap music was established as a political soapbox, embodied by a progressive movement that was atypical for urban America. With the release of the artist One Son’s new project Microwave Age, the Alabama MC takes it back to those days. The album consists of a variety of tracks that discuss societal issues and life experiences - for example the inspirational “Keep Trying”. Microwave Age also features songs like the ode to Hip Hop “Crossroads” that details One Son’s take on the deterioration of the art form. He states “we’re in a microwave age, where we want everything ready made”. There also songs on the album like the anthem “Aight Then” over a clever Top Gun sampled beat, where One Son spews verbal havoc on weak artists. One Son also takes time out for the ladies on a soulful song called “My Rib,” in which the rapper uses the biblical reference as a metaphor to discuss his appreciation of a female counterpart. Whether you're into politics or relationships, Microwave Age has something for everyone. Thirty years ago, four teens created a band teaching themselves how to play instruments and compose original songs; This is the story of The Knob, who has since become a mainstay in Long Island performing in over 200 area venues. Recently the band released the album Cheap and Easy, featuring a variety of songs that incite moments of musical nostalgia, like the 1950s inspired “The Schuffle”. This song makes you feel like you’re watching an old episode of American Bandstand while dancing in front of the TV. Then there are the late 60s to 70s inspired songs like “One Good Reason” and “The Sun & The Moon”, which take the listener on a reminiscent voyage to the Woodstock era. “Blackheart”, “Footprints in The Snow”, and “Flag Burning Freedom” all remind you of the large stadium rock concerts in the 1980s. So no matter what era of rock that you've enjoyed most, Cheap and Easy proves to be the perfect tool of musical time travel and will have you turning up The Knob on your stereo to maximum levels!
