SIR Magazine: where indie and mainstream collide

In the pioneering days of Hip Hop culture, rap music was established as a political soapbox, embodied by a progressive movement that was atypical for urban America. With the release of the artist One Son’s new project Microwave Age, the Alabama MC takes it back to those days. The album consists of a variety of tracks that discuss societal issues and life experiences - for example the inspirational “Keep Trying”. Microwave Age also features songs like the ode to Hip Hop “Crossroads” that details One Son’s take on the deterioration of the art form. He states “we’re in a microwave age, where we want everything ready made”. There also songs on the album like the anthem “Aight Then” over a clever Top Gun sampled beat, where One Son spews verbal havoc on weak artists. One Son also takes time out for the ladies on a soulful song called “My Rib,” in which the rapper uses the biblical reference as a metaphor to discuss his appreciation of a female counterpart. Whether you're into politics or relationships, Microwave Age has something for everyone.
